MEDICAL VISA FOR INDIA

Medical visa for India

Most international patients travel on India’s e-Medical Visa, applied for online, and up to two family members can come on e-Medical Attendant Visas. We arrange your hospital invitation letter and guide you through the application.

Medical recommendations come from your qualified treating clinicians.

01

Which visa do you need?

The visa depends on who is travelling. Two e-Visa types cover patients and their families:

  • e-Medical Visa: for the patient coming to India for treatment
  • e-Medical Attendant Visa: for family members travelling with the patient, up to two for each e-Medical Visa
  • Regular medical visa: if your country isn’t eligible for India’s e-Visa, apply at the Indian embassy or high commission instead
02

Documents you’ll need

The online application asks for a few documents. Keep them ready before you start:

  • A passport valid for at least six months when you apply, with at least two blank pages
  • A recent photo with a plain light or white background, full face, without glasses
  • A scan of your passport’s photo page
  • For the patient: a letter from the Indian hospital on its letterhead, showing the suggested or tentative admission date. We arrange this for you.
  • For attendants: a scan of the passport’s photo page
03

When and how to apply

Apply on the official Government of India e-Visa website at least four days before you arrive, and up to 120 days ahead. Fill in the form, upload your documents and pay the fee online. The fee isn’t refundable. You’ll receive the e-Visa by email; print it and carry it when you travel.

04

Validity and length of stay

The e-Medical Visa and e-Medical Attendant Visa are valid for one year from your arrival in India and allow multiple entries. An e-Visa can’t be extended or converted to another visa type. If your treatment may run long, tell us early so we can plan with the hospital.
