CAR-T CELL THERAPY IN INDIA

CAR-T cell therapy in India

CAR-T cell therapy reprograms your own immune cells to attack certain blood cancers. India now has its own approved CAR-T therapy, which has made it more accessible. We arrange a review of your reports by haematology teams in Delhi NCR.

Medical recommendations come from your qualified treating clinicians.

01

How CAR-T works

Your T cells are collected from the blood, genetically modified in a laboratory to recognise the cancer, multiplied and infused back into you. It is used mainly for certain B-cell lymphomas and leukaemias that have come back or not responded to standard treatment.

  • Assessment and tests
  • T-cell collection (apheresis)
  • Manufacturing, usually a few weeks, often with bridging treatment
  • Short chemotherapy, then the CAR-T infusion
  • Close monitoring for side effects such as cytokine release syndrome
Laboratory work with test tubes
CAR-T cells are prepared in a specialised laboratory
02

What decides suitability and cost

The haematology team decides whether CAR-T suits you. The main factors are:

  • Your cancer type and previous treatment
  • Your general health and organ function
  • Which CAR-T product is used
  • Days in hospital and intensive care if side effects occur
03

What an estimate usually covers

Ask whether the estimate includes assessment, cell collection, the CAR-T product, the infusion admission and monitoring. Treatment of side effects can add to the cost.

04

How long to plan for in India

Plan for about one to two months: assessment, cell collection, manufacturing, infusion and at least the first weeks of monitoring near the hospital.

05

Choosing a CAR-T centre

Choose a centre with a bone marrow transplant unit and experience managing CAR-T side effects.
