CHEMOTHERAPY COST IN INDIA

Chemotherapy cost in India

Chemotherapy is given in cycles, and its cost depends mostly on the medicines your oncologist recommends. We share your reports with oncology teams in Delhi NCR and get you a written plan and estimate before you travel.

Medical recommendations come from your qualified treating clinicians.

01

How chemotherapy is planned

Chemotherapy uses medicines to kill cancer cells or stop them growing. It may be given before surgery to shrink a tumour, after surgery to lower the risk of the cancer returning, or as the main treatment. It is usually given in cycles every one to four weeks, often as a day-care treatment.

Your oncologist chooses the drugs (the regimen) based on the cancer type, stage, test results and your general health. Some plans combine chemotherapy with targeted therapy or immunotherapy.

02

Why chemotherapy costs differ

The main factors are:

  • The drugs in your regimen, and whether generic or biosimilar versions are suitable
  • Your dose, which often depends on your weight or body surface area
  • The number of cycles
  • Day-care or inpatient treatment
  • Scans and blood tests between cycles
  • Medicines to prevent sickness and infection
03

What a chemotherapy estimate usually covers

Estimates are usually given per cycle and for the full plan. Check whether they include the drugs, day-care charges, consultation fees and routine blood tests. India manufactures generic and biosimilar versions of many cancer medicines, which can lower costs; your oncologist tells you whether they suit your plan.

04

Can chemotherapy continue at home?

Sometimes. Patients often have the first cycles in India so the team can check how they respond, then continue with an oncologist at home following the Indian team’s plan. Your oncologist decides what is safe.

05

How long to plan for in India

It depends on the plan. For chemotherapy alone, many patients stay for one or two cycles (about three to six weeks); if surgery or radiation is also planned, longer. Your oncologist confirms the timeline after reviewing your reports.

06

Choosing a cancer hospital

Choose a centre with a tumour board that discusses your case, a day-care chemotherapy unit and experience with your cancer type.
